The latest data shows there are countless errors in documents generated by public organisations. Fortunately, these errors are easily corrected. Learn how to avoid these critical mistakes.
Recent data shows that countless errors exist in documents generated by Danish public organizations. However, there’s an important caveat – these errors have fortunately been documented as part of a process in which they are automatically identified and subsequently corrected.
As many already know, Assist Pro is a widely used tool in the Danish public sector. It identifies web accessibility issues and enables users to fix errors and create fully accessible documents with just a few clicks – a process that would otherwise be time-consuming and require significant technical expertise.
Over the past 30 days alone, Assist Pro has identified a total of 574,000 unique errors in public documents. That brings us to a staggering figure of more than 6.8 million errors that Assist Pro has helped identify and correct over the past 12 months!
Consider the impact this has for a citizen with a permanent or temporary need for a screen reader, for example – that’s 6.8 million unique errors that no longer show up in the citizen’s digital mailbox.
A single mistake in a letter from the municipality or a government agency can quickly make it difficult to understand the content when using a screen reader.
Figures from the Danish Agency for Digital Government indicate that 20% of the Danish population relies on digital assistive technologies – a statistic that holds true across much of the surrounding region. This means that in Denmark alone, nearly 1.2 million people require support such as a screen reader. That’s a number we must take seriously and act on by creating inclusive content that is accessible to this entire segment of the population.
